On November 19, 2004 KORE made history.
Kent Kroeker, President of Kroeker Off Road Engineering
( KORE ), raced a 2003 Dodge Ram 2500 4x4 in the Stock Full class of the SCORE Baja 1000. This Dodge Ram was the first Cummins-powered vehicle ever to finish the Baja 1000.
Co-pilots were SaraMae Kroeker, Robin Stover, Four Wheeler Magazines Feature Editor, and Rod Hamby, pro Baja racer.
Kent drove for 29 hours 23 minutes and 10 seconds, bringing the mighty Dodge Ram to the podium for third place in the class. This time is only 5 hours behind the full factory sponsored trophy class trucks which include multiple driver/co-pilot teams, and a very large support crew with several chase vehicles. Kent drove the entire race himself.
Although equipped with certain parts to fulfill safety requirements and make it competitive, the KORE race truck is essentially stock. Many racers strip down their race vehicles to save weight, Kent left the full factory interior, with air conditioning, power windows and even the stereo system in the truck.
While most racers tow their vehicles to and from the race, the KORE Race Team drove the truck to the race from their shop near San Diego, and home afterward all the way from La Paz, driving the mighty KORE Ram back to San Diego under its own power. Kent carried all his tools, spare parts and spare tires in the bed of his truck. The KORE race truck also got an amazing 12.5 MPG average for the entire race.
The KORE race truck uses KORE Fox race suspension, 37x13.50x17 Toyo Open Country Mud Terrain Tires, Banks engine modifications, turbo charger by PDR Diesel, a built-in roll cage, an ATL 44 gallon fuel cell, F.A.S.S. fuel pump, a moving-map GPS, race seats with 5-point harnesses, a Baja Designs HID Carrera lighting system, and a VHF race radio.
